Focus on Long-Term Solutions

On my weight loss journey, I’ve learned many wonder principles. I wanted to share a couple of these principles with everyone today.

I've learned that unhealthy/cheap foods contain high levels of unhealthy fats, added sugar and/or salt, which are put in the recipes so consumer’s will become addicted to the end product. They may help with anxiety levels in the moment but are not a solution to the problem. 

On the flip side of the coin I've discovered that regular exercise is a long-term solution, that allows the body to heal and function properly amidst the emotional struggles of life. To illustrate this, here are some of the key benefits of exercise with regards to depression (as explained by WebMD).

  • Improved self-esteem

  • Releasing endorphins, which produces a good feeling within the body. This chemical helps create greater positivity and lowers your levels of pain. “These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain.” … “However, unlike with morphine, the activation of these receptors by the body's endorphins does not lead to addiction or dependence.” Endorphins are a natural high the body releases through exercise.

  • Reduces stress

  • Improves sleep

  • Strengthens and builds bones

  • Increases the strength of your heart

  • Lowers your blood pressure (a result of a strengthened heart)

  • Reduces body fat

Weekly exercise is critical to longevity and quality of life. With that said, it’s hard to live what we know — I get it. Even though the jury is out on the benefits of whole foods and exercise, it’s sometimes hard to put those good habits in place. My suggestion is this: start slow and remain steady. Small wins over time lead to long-term success. Good luck, you’ve got this!
